Paras joulu ikinä, the best Christmas ever

Kuusi tuikkii keskellä olohuonetta. Aamusauna on lämpenemässä. Koti hiljeni, sillä jälkikasvu starttasi kohti pohjoista, mielessään mummola ja sen lähellä sijaitseva laskettelukeskus. Tiedossa on myös serkkuenergiaa.

The Christmas tree twinkles in our sitting room. I've switched on the sauna for the morning. The house quieted down, as our younger generation has taken off to the North to visit grandparents and to enjoy a ski resort just nearby. I suspect also cousins will add energy to the vacation.

Joulu oli sen verran kokonaisvaltainen kokemus, että siitä on vaikea lausua nyt oikeastaan yhtään mitään. Saako aikuisena vielä sanoa, että "paras joulu ikinä", kuten myös 11-v poikani hoki useampaan otteeseen?

Christmas was such a comprehensive experience, that it is quite impossible to give any kind of a statement about it. Is an adult still eligible to say, that "this was the best Christmas ever", as did our 11-year old boy several times?

Aattona söimme syömästä päästyämme: riisipuuroa, väliin mahtui juustokattaus ja  illalla nautittiin kolmen kattauksen illallista. Tunnelmasta minä itse pidin eniten: kynttilöistä, kuusesta, takasta ja ihan itse näytellystä jouluevankeliumista. Kukaan ei kinannut, lapset jaksoivat hienosti odotella aamulla kuusen alle aseteltuja lahjoja. Pieni sukulaistyttö hössötti syötävän suloisesti nuken, nallen, ja kaiken maailman touhujen parissa. Isomummi voitti aattoyön trivialin.

On Christmas eve (that's when we celebrate around here) we pretty much ate meal after meal. First we had some traditional rice porridge for late breakfast, then we just had time to enjoy a humongous cheese platter before going on to a dinner of three settings. However, most of allI enjoyed the atmosphere: the candels, the tree, the fireplace and a Christmas story we re-enacted with all the ten of us present to enjoy the day and sleep over. No one fussed, the kids did a wonderful job keeping their cool as they looked at the presents under the tree for the whole day before opening them in the evening. Our litte niece was just overly cute as she played with a doll and a teddy and arranged stuff for the whole day. The great grandmother won the Christmas night's Trivial Pursuit-game.

Nyt tosiaan siisti, tuikkiva hiljainen koti tuntuu ihan uudella tavalla käyttöön otetulta. Ensimmäinen joulu uudessa kodissa toimi, tilaa oli enemmän kuin riittävästi, jokaiselle löytyi oma soppi. Keittiö pelasi, tiskiä pestiin pesemästä päästyä ja jääkaappikin veti juuri ja juuri kaiken tarpeellisen sisäänsä.Nyt on aika nauttia vähän kahdenkeskeisestä ajasta. Miten, missä ja milloin, siitä kerrotaan sitten vasta myöhemmin :D

Anyhow now we have a clean twinkling, quiet home and it feels like it has finally been taken into proper use. This was our first Christmas in our new home and it all worked well. We had enough space, everyone found a good place to sleep. The kitchen worked beautifuly, and the fridge pretty much took everything in. Now it's time to take some time off and enjoy life, just the two of us. Where, how and when, I'll save that for later :D
